Overview

The Import wizard provides a six-step process for migrating giving data from legacy church management systems or spreadsheets. It supports CSV files and includes automatic column detection, fund matching, donor resolution, and a full review step before committing the data. The wizard handles common formats from PowerChurch, Shelby, ACS, and generic spreadsheets.

Import Steps

Step 1: Upload

PreviewTableShows the first few rows of the uploaded CSV to verify the file is correct.

Step 2: Configure

Name Format*DropdownHow donor names appear in the CSV: "Last, First" (most common), "First Last", "Combined / Single field", or "Separate columns".
Default Payment MethodDropdownPayment method to apply if not specified per row: Auto-detect, Cash, Cheque, Online/EFT, Debit, Credit Card.
Service WindowDropdownAssociate all imported transactions with a specific service window.

Step 3: Map Columns

Column Mapping*Dropdown per columnMap each CSV column to a system field. Auto-detected columns are pre-selected. Available system fields grouped by category:
Donor groupTextEnvelope #, Donor Name, First Name, Last Name.
Fund groupTextOne option per active fund in your tenant. Columns matching fund names are auto-detected.
Transaction groupTextPayment Method, Cheque Number, Date, Note/Memo.
Calculated groupTextRow Total (auto-calculated sum of fund columns).
IgnoreTextMark columns to skip during import.

Step 4: Resolve Donors

FieldTypeDescription
Unresolved DonorsListDonors from the CSV that could not be matched to existing donor records. Each shows suggested matches if available.
Match DonorButtonLink the imported name to an existing donor record.
Create NewButtonCreate a new donor record for this name.
SkipButtonImport the transactions without linking to a donor.

Step 5: Review

Import SummaryDisplayShows total rows, total amount, donor count, fund breakdown, and any warnings.
Transaction PreviewTablePreview of all transactions that will be created, with donor, amount, fund, and payment method.
WarningsListAny data quality issues (e.g., missing donors, unusual amounts, duplicate rows).

Step 6: Complete

Actions

Import a CSV File

  1. Click “Upload” and select your CSV file
  2. Review the preview to verify the data looks correct
  3. Configure the name format and default payment method
  4. Map each CSV column to the corresponding system field (auto-detected mappings are pre-filled)
  5. Resolve any unmatched donors by matching to existing records, creating new donors, or skipping
  6. Review the import summary and transaction preview
  7. Click “Import” to commit the data
  8. View the created session with all imported transactions
