The Bereavement page manages care for families experiencing loss. It uses a phased care model that tracks each case through distinct stages: Acute (immediate crisis), Ongoing (continued support), Anniversary Watch (annual remembrance), and Closed. A background job also tracks bereavement anniversaries so your team can proactively reach out on difficult dates.

Overview
The page displays bereavement care items with their phase-specific status badges and an upcoming anniversaries section. Each case is mapped from the standard care item statuses to bereavement-specific phases:
- OPEN maps to Acute — immediate crisis (red)
- IN_PROGRESS maps to Acute (first 30 days) or Ongoing (after 30 days)
- SNOOZED / RESOLVED maps to Anniversary Watch — annual remembrance (purple)
- CLOSED maps to Closed — care completed (gray)
Fields & Controls
Active Bereavement Cases

| Phase Status | Badge | Bereavement phase: Acute (red), Ongoing (amber), Anniversary Watch (purple), Closed (gray). |
| Title | Text | Description of the loss (e.g., "Loss of father", "Loss of spouse"). |
| Days Since Loss | Number | Number of days since the bereavement item was created. |
| Assigned To | Avatar | Staff member providing bereavement care. |
Upcoming Anniversaries

| Member Name | Text | Name of the bereaved member approaching an anniversary. |
| Anniversary Date | Date | The upcoming date of the loss anniversary. |
| Years | Number | Which anniversary year (e.g., 1st, 2nd, 5th). |
| Campus | Text | Which campus the member belongs to. |
Bereavement Care Phases
- Acute (first 30 days) — Immediate crisis care. Frequent visits, meal coordination, funeral support, and daily check-ins. Red status badge.
- Ongoing (30+ days) — Continued pastoral support. Regular visits taper off, grief support group referrals, check-ins every 1-2 weeks. Amber status badge.
- Anniversary Watch — Annual remembrance tracking. The system sends reminders to the care team before the anniversary of the loss. Purple status badge.
- Closed — Care need fully addressed. The member has completed the bereavement care journey. Gray status badge.
Actions
Create a Bereavement Item
- Click + New Bereavement
- Search for and select the bereaved member
- Enter a title describing the loss
- Set urgency and assign a pastor or care minister
- Add initial notes about the situation and family needs
- Click Create
Advance to Next Phase
- Open the bereavement item detail
- Click the next phase button (e.g., “Move to Ongoing”)
- The status updates and the phase transition is recorded in the timeline
View Upcoming Anniversaries
- The Anniversaries section shows losses approaching their annual date
- Default lookback window is 30 days ahead
- Plan a pastoral touch — card, phone call, or visit — before the anniversary
